The Ohio Crossover Athletics Best Defensive Player Award is given to a player who exemplifies excellence on the defensive end of the court. This player through effort, hard work, and ability is able to disrupt the opposing team and take them out of their offense by shutting down his opponent one-on-one or contributing to his team's success with great help side defense. I am proud to announce that the winner of the 2011 OCA 9th Grade Boys Best Defensive Player Award is Trevon Teague from Winton Woods High School.
Whether it was rebounding the ball on the defensive boards, blocking a shot, or coming up with a timely steal, Trevon always seemed to make a play just when the team needed it most. He was also willing to take on the challenge of guarding the best player on the opposing team. During a game in July against Hoosier Hoops 2014, one of their players scored 19 points in the first half. Trevon was given the task in the second half of shutting him down and held him scoreless leading OCA to another victory. His leadership and communication with his teammates on the court was invaluable as well. He did a great job of talking to his teammates on the court making sure they were in the correct defense, calling out cutters, screens, and defensive assignments.
I believe that Trevon Teague will put in the hard work that it takes to continue to improve on both ends of the floor. I expect Trevon to have a great sophomore season at Winton Woods High School and hope that he chooses OCA again next year. Congratulations Trevon!
