The Ohio Crossover Athletics Most Improved Player Award is given to a player who has made significant strides in his game from the beginning of the AAU season to the end. These improvements are not only based on statistics, but also include the player's mental approach, intensity, and will to win that he brings to each and every game. I am proud to announce that the winner of the 2013 OCA 11th Grade Most Improved Player Award is Aaron Albrinck from McNicholas High School.
Aaron came into the season less than a year removed from tearing his ACL. He had missed his entire high school season and wasn't fully cleared to play until just right before our first tournament of the year. In his first game he scored 8 points and hit 2 three-pointers to help the team open the AAU season with a big victory in Pickerington, OH. However, he had some inconsistent performances through the first half of the season as he continued to heal both physically and mentally from his injury. As Aaron's health and confidenced improved, so did his game. He was at his best in the month of July during the NCAA evaluation period. In a game at the AAU Division 2 National Championship Tournament, Aaron scored 15 points, hit 3 three pointers and was a perfect 2-2 from the free throw line against the Hudson Hornets from New York. He also added 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, and a block. This game was a demonstration of his improvement not only on the offensive end, but the defensive end as well. Aaron led the team in three point field goal percentage, was a great teammate, and a joy to coach. I expect Aaron to have a fantastic Senior season at McNicholas High School and to have the opportunity to continue his career on the next level. Congratulations Aaron!
