The Ohio Crossover Athletics Best Defensive Player Award is given to a player who exemplifies excellence on the defensive end of the court. This player through effort, hard work, and ability is able to disrupt the opposing team and take them out of their offense by shutting down his opponent one-on-one or contributing to his team's success with great help side defense. I am proud to announce that the winner of the 2013 OCA 11th Grade Boys Best Defensive Player Award is Matt James from Kings High School.
Matt led the team in rebounding and blocked shots this season. He helped lead the team to a big victory in July at the GRBA National Championship Tournament during the NCAA evaluation period by grabbing 18 rebounds including 14 defensive rebounds in a big victory over Full Package Athletics from Illinois. Matt also collected at least 1 block in 27 of the 38 games he played this season. However, Matt's biggest attribute is his versatility. Matt can guard every position from center to point guard and his length and athleticism were a huge asset in our press as well. He was able to pressure the ball and deflect passes that led to steals for himself and his teammates. Whether it was grabbing a key rebound, blocking a shot, or coming up with a timely steal, he always seemed to make a play when the team needed it the most. I enjoyed coaching Matt this year and expect him to have a fantastic Senior season at Kings High School and to have the opportunity to continue his career on the next level. Congratulations Matt!
