The Ohio Crossover Athletics Best Defensive Player Award is given to a player who exemplifies excellence on the defensive end of the court. This player through effort, hard work, and ability is able to disrupt the opposing team and take them out of their offense by shutting down his opponent one-on-one or contributing to his team's success with great help side defense. I am proud to announce that the winner of the 2015 OCA 8th Grade (McCallum) Boys Best Defensive Player Award is Alex Kirk from Nagel Middle School.
It is rare for coaches to be able to find players that are willing to sacrifice their bodies on the defensive end. These types of players win games. Alex was always willing to “stick his nose in there.” He was one of the most versatile players on our team. He can multiple positions and he was always willing to take on the challenge of guarding the best player on the opposing team. Alex’s defensive mindset often fueled our offensive transition game through steals, deflections, and his effort on the glass. Alex is proof that if you work hard, good things are
going to come your way. Congratulations Alex!
