The Ohio Crossover Athletics Best Defensive Player Award is given to a player who exemplifies excellence on the defensive end of the court. This player through effort, hard work, and ability is able to disrupt the opposing team and take them out of their offense by shutting down his opponent one-on-one or contributing to his team's success with great help side defense. I am proud to announce that the winner of the 2015 OCA 11th Grade Boys Best Defensive Player Award is DeAndre McCallum from Anderson High School.
DeAndre is an aggressive, physical defender who works extremely hard. He tied for the team lead this year in rebounds per game (min. 20 games played), was 4th in total steals, and 5th in total blocks. However, his biggest attribute is his versatility. DeAndre can guard every position from point guard to center and his athleticism was a huge asset in our press as well. He was also always willing to sacrifice his body to take a charge. Whether it was grabbing a key rebound, blocking a shot, or coming up with a timely steal, he always seemed to make a play when the team needed it the most.
I enjoyed coaching DeAndre this year and I expect him to have a fantastic Senior season at Anderson High School and to have the opportunity to continue his career on the next level. Congratulations DeAndre!
